Description
The Daniel Defense MK18 SBR: Built for Performance
When you need a rifle that works when it counts, the Daniel Defense MK18 SBR delivers. This isn’t a range toy or a collector’s piece—it’s a working rifle built to the same specifications that military and law enforcement units trust. The MK18 platform has seen combat worldwide, and this civilian-legal version brings that same reliability to your hands.
What Makes This SBR Different
Most short-barreled rifles compromise somewhere—either in reliability, accuracy, or durability. The MK18 doesn’t. Daniel Defense starts with a cold hammer-forged barrel that’s been stress-relieved for consistent accuracy. The 10.3-inch length maintains proper dwell time for reliable cycling with 5.56mm ammunition, something many shorter barrels struggle with. The gas system is tuned to run clean with minimal recoil impulse, whether you’re shooting suppressed or unsuppressed. This rifle comes ready to work straight out of the box, with no break-in period needed and no modifications required to make it run right.

Why This SBR Works for Arizona Shooters
Here in Arizona, we have unique shooting environments—from tight canyons and rocky terrain to urban training facilities. The MK18’s compact size makes it ideal for vehicle use or navigating through brush without getting hung up. The 5.56mm chambering means you can share ammunition with your other AR-platform rifles, and the 10.3-inch barrel still delivers effective terminal ballistics at practical engagement distances. Whether you’re running drills at Rio Salado or heading out to BLM land, this rifle handles the heat and dust of our desert climate without complaint. The Cerakote finish resists corrosion from sweat and exposure, something that matters when you’re shooting in southern Arizona conditions.
Built to Last
Daniel Defense doesn’t cut corners. The upper and lower receivers are machined from 7075-T6 aluminum forgings, then hardcoat anodized for durability. The bolt carrier group features a Carpenter 158 steel bolt that’s magnetic particle inspected, and the barrel is chrome-lined for extended service life. Every component is built to withstand hard use, which is why Daniel Defense backs it with a lifetime warranty. This isn’t a rifle you’ll need to baby—it’s built to be used.
Ready to Work
The MK18 comes with Daniel Defense’s proprietary rail system that provides a solid platform for optics, lights, and other accessories. The mil-spec buffer tube accepts any standard stock, and the included magazine ensures reliable feeding from the start. The 1/2×28 thread pitch accepts common muzzle devices and suppressors, giving you flexibility in how you configure the rifle for your needs.

NFA-Regulated Firearm — ATF Form 4 Required
This is a short-barreled rifle (SBR) regulated under the National Firearms Act. Purchase requires an ATF Form 4 transfer, a $200 federal tax stamp, and approximately 30–120 days of ATF processing (eForm 4 is typically faster than paper). The firearm ships to a licensed FFL/SOT dealer of your choice; you take possession only after ATF approval.
SBRs are currently legal to own in most U.S. states. They remain prohibited or restricted for civilian possession in California, New York, New Jersey, Washington D.C., Hawaii, Iowa, Rhode Island, and Washington State. Check your state and local law before ordering. By placing an order you affirm that possession is lawful in your jurisdiction and that you are 21+ with no prohibiting factors under 18 U.S.C. §922(g).

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the NFA purchase process work for this SBR?
You'll complete an ATF Form 4 with our help, submit fingerprints and photos, and wait for approval. Once approved, we ship to your chosen FFL for pickup. We guide you through every step.
What's the typical wait time for NFA approval?
Current processing times run 6-9 months for individual transfers, though trusts may take longer. These are ATF processing times—we submit your paperwork the same day you complete it.
Do you ship to FFLs outside Arizona?
Yes, we ship NFA items to any FFL nationwide that accepts transfers. Your local FFL must have a current SOT to receive the item, and you'll complete the transfer there.
Why choose 5.56mm for an SBR instead of a pistol caliber?
The 10.3-inch barrel maintains effective terminal ballistics with 5.56mm while keeping the rifle compact. You get rifle performance in a smaller package and can share ammo with your other AR-platform guns.

Ran this through a two-day carbine course in the heat. Zero malfunctions, even with cheap ammo. The Cerakote held up better than my other rifles. Exactly what I wanted for vehicle work.

Perfect size for my smaller frame. Recoil is manageable, and it’s accurate enough for practical distances. Wish it came with iron sights, but that’s my only complaint. Solid rifle.

Bought this for winter patrols on my property. Short enough to maneuver in the woods, hits hard enough for coyotes. Daniel Defense quality shows in every detail. Worth the wait.
